Anxiety and panic attacks

Panic attacks can feel frightening, with a racing heart, shaking or a sense of dread. A primary care doctor, telehealth or a mental health provider can help with ongoing anxiety. If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 any time.

Go to the ER or call 911 if

  • Chest pain or pressure, fainting or trouble breathing, even if you think it's anxiety
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or someone else (call or text 988, or 911 in an emergency)
  • Confusion or seeing or hearing things others don't

What urgent care can usually do

  • Check your heart rate and blood pressure
  • Rule out common physical causes
  • Refer you to mental health care

What to bring

  • Medicines you take, including supplements and caffeine
  • Whether this has happened before
