Nosebleeds
Most nosebleeds stop with steady pressure. Urgent care can help with one that keeps coming back or won't stop after 15 to 20 minutes of pressure.
Go to the ER or call 911 if
- Bleeding heavily for more than 20 minutes despite pressure
- Nosebleed after a hard hit to the face or head
- Bleeding while taking blood thinners that won't stop
- Trouble breathing or feeling faint
What urgent care can usually do
- Find and treat the bleeding spot
- Packing to stop bleeding
- Advice on preventing repeat nosebleeds
How to stop it
- Sit up and lean forward, not back.
- Pinch the soft part of the nose firmly for 10 to 15 minutes without letting go to check.
- Breathe through your mouth and spit out blood rather than swallowing it.
What to bring
- Whether you take blood thinners or aspirin
- How long it's been bleeding
